No major reconfiguration of millwork, or appliances was necessary for this client, in this already fabulous and large size kitchen, in the Tarzana, California area. The client expressed wanting a look that was more elegant and aesthetically flattering, for this modern farmhouse-style home. They wanted to steer away from the typical black, white, and wood selections seen in modern farmhouse-style homes, and go for a muted pop of color, and a waterfall-edge style island, that would command the attention in this area. We decided to go with a slab selection with lots of gold contrasting veins. The paint that we used was a light gray color, with a subtle green undertone, to compliment the warmth of the island slab selection. We opted for cup-pull hardware with a light patina finish, and mushroom-style knobs to add a classic, yet modern details to the shaker-style panels of the millwork. To open up the window, we decided to remove the corner wall cabinets and create a small bread pantry, with a full glass panel, that was flush with the surface of the base cabinets, to finish off the end area. This created more symmetry on this wall. We covered the under-cabinet hood, with custom millwork, that helped to add some charm to this area. We went with a highly textured, hand-made zellige style backsplash, to compliment the organic look of the island slab. To complement the large bold island, we decided to go with these grand brass globe pendants.
