Amelia Knox is a DC-area based designer, who is passionate about people; and creating functional and inviting spaces that add to a better quality of life for it’s occupant(s).
Growing up as the daughter of renowned oil-based portrait painter Simmie L. Knox, visual arts have always played an integral role in her life. Her appreciation blossomed from observing her father’s technique; and how even the smallest of paint-brush strokes, all add up to a bigger picture. Details matter. Her mother, Roberta, is also a visual artist. The duality of her parents’ influence, has honed her eye, from a young age. Amelia studied, and earned her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Interior Architecture and Design at The George Washington University, in Washington DC.
Prior to embarking on a career pivot into interior design, Amelia studied Psychology and Justice at Howard University, earning her a Bachelor of Arts degree. She stands firm in her belief that from over 10 years of working in social services, it has equipped her with a keen sense of empathy, and ability to listen to, and understand the unique needs [and challenges] of various clients; in order to be solution-oriented and creative in her approach. Social services is all about listening, and helping people solve problems that affect the quality of their lives. Being a “people person” is critical in design. People are trusting you to maximize the quality of their life, in their physical environment. She used this past experience as a catalyst to spearhead her new career, to solve problems with physical space.
